Why India Banned 54 more Chinese Apps?
India banned 54 more Chinese apps by exercising its power under section 69 A of the Information Technology (IT) Act, till this date the centre had banned a total number of 267 Chinese origin apps. That’s why a question is arriving in everybody’s mind why is the central government is doing this, is there’s any benefit of doing this? Today we are gone talk about banning of Chinese apps, its benefit and its consequences.
After banning the Chinese apps the government has stated that applications belonging to major Chinese tech companies like Tencent, Alibaba and NetEase are modernize versions of apps already banned by India in 2020. The latest move could be a fallout of the current standoff between India and China locked in a protracted border dispute. When asked to government that why they are banning these apps the government responded that these apps are collecting the data of many Indians and selling them in Chinese and many other countries. It is a serious threat for the security of country and its peoples, the government cannot compromise with the security of its people and the country. The government had stated that “sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order” are reasons for the ban.
As the centre banned the Chinese apps there is an opportunity for the Indian app developers to develop the apps related to Chinese apps this will help them. The Indian apps are not harmful as the data they collects will remain in India. It will be a win-win situation as it will not only reduce India’s digital dependency on China, but also generate revenue which will ultimately contribute towards the GDP, and benefit our economy. This move may bring more investment to the data centres in India.
As there are some benefits of banning Chinese apps, there are also some consequences of it. Many Chinese apps offices are in India and many people are doing jobs in them, after this they are jobless now. There are many big Chinese investors who wants to invest in theses companies, but after this they will think twice before investing.
This ban is a type of warning for all the tech companies to do their work more ethically, follow all the rules as per guidelines, and store the data locally. This is also an opportunity for the local app developers to show their capability and launch their own apps into the market. This will help in boosting the economy of India and help the government in securing our data and privacy.
